The Merrick School of Music recently resonated with exceptional talent and passion as it hosted the inaugural Long Island Young Soloist Competition. This remarkable event, held virtually this year, provided a platform for budding musicians to showcase their skills and dedication. The competition drew a diverse array of participants, each vying for recognition and the chance to be part of an event that promises to become a recurring celebration of musical excellence.
In an era where virtual connections have become increasingly important, the Long Island Young Soloist Competition adopted an online format, inviting participants to submit recordings of two musical pieces. This approach not only allowed for broader participation but also highlighted the adaptability and innovation inherent in the musical community.

After careful consideration, the panel of judges had the daunting task of selecting the winners from an array of outstanding performances. Four remarkable young talents emerged as the victors of this competition: Jack O’Hara, Jaccia Charles, Nia Isaacs-Corr, and Andrew Militello. Their dedication to their craft was evident in every note they played and every melody they shared.
The competition’s winners will be rewarded with more than just recognition. A scholarship to the Merrick School of Music awaits each of them, underlining the institution’s dedication to fostering young musicians and supporting their artistic development. This gesture not only acknowledges their present accomplishments but also motivates them to further cultivate their musical talents.
