In a heartbreaking turn of events for rock fans across North America, Aerosmith, one of the most iconic bands of all time, has announced the postponement of six of their North American farewell tour dates due to a health setback affecting their legendary frontman, Steven Tyler. The band kicked off their highly anticipated Peace Out tour earlier this month, and fans were eagerly awaiting their next performance. However, the tour is now on hold as Tyler, 74, faces vocal cord damage that requires a month of vocal rest.
Aerosmith had been scheduled to perform in Toronto on Tuesday, but this show, along with several others, has been rescheduled to February 2024. The revised schedule now has their next gig taking place in Tampa, Florida next month.
In a heartfelt statement posted online, Steven Tyler expressed his disappointment and explained the situation. “I’m heartbroken to say I have received strict doctor’s orders not to sing for the next 30 days,” he shared. “I sustained vocal cord damage during Saturday’s show in Elmont, New York, that led to subsequent bleeding. We’ll need to postpone a few dates so that we can come back and give you the performance you deserve.”
Aerosmith, known for their classic hits spanning decades, including “Dream On,” “Walk This Way,” and “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing,” had been captivating audiences since the 1970s. Despite their rock and roll lifestyle, the Grammy-winning Boston band has remained a beloved fixture in the music world. Their contributions to rock music were recognized when they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 2001, the same year they performed at the Super Bowl halftime show.
This postponement follows a period of uncertainty for the band, as they canceled part of their Las Vegas residency last year when Steven Tyler checked himself into rehab.
The band’s final tour had originally been set to conclude in Montreal on January 26, 2024, but now it will extend into February, culminating in a rescheduled show in Cleveland, Ohio on February 29, 2024. Other affected cities include Detroit, Chicago, Washington DC, and Raleigh, North Carolina.
Despite the setback, the band and their loyal fans are determined to ensure that these farewell tour shows go on. Fans who have already purchased tickets can retain them as they will be valid for the rescheduled dates. Alternatively, ticket holders can request a refund.
As the rock world rallies behind Steven Tyler’s recovery, the anticipation for Aerosmith’s rescheduled tour dates in 2024 only grows, with fans eagerly waiting for the band to return to the stage and give the unforgettable performances they are known for.
